Grate cooler grate plates have a complex structure with numerous grate gaps, through holes, and reinforcing ribs, requiring high precision in molding and strict control of defects during the casting process. Currently, the main casting processes include sand casting, lost foam casting, and investment casting, with sand casting and lost foam casting being the most widely used.
1. Sand Casting: Using resin sand or water glass sand as the molding material, this process is mature, has low production costs, and high production efficiency, making it suitable for mass production. By optimizing the permeability and strength of the sand mold, defects such as pores and sand inclusions can be effectively reduced. The dimensional accuracy of the castings can reach CT10-CT12 levels, meeting the molding requirements of conventional grate plates.
2. Lost Foam Casting: This process uses foamed plastic to create a pattern, which is then embedded in dry sand and vibrated to compact it before pouring. The molten metal replaces the foam pattern to achieve molding. This process eliminates the need for mold removal, allowing for the casting of complex structures such as grate gaps and irregularly shaped reinforcing ribs. The castings have clear contours and smooth surfaces, requiring less subsequent processing, and the dimensional accuracy can reach CT9-CT11 levels, making it suitable for the production of complex grate plates.
3. Investment Casting: This process involves wax pattern making, shell making, dewaxing, and pouring. The castings have high surface finish and high dimensional accuracy (CT7-CT9 levels), but the process is complex, production costs are high, and production efficiency is low. It is only suitable for the production of high-precision, small-batch special grate plates.
